What's new

I realized June is almost over and I've hardly updated in weeks.  The three Turleys (and Larkin) are all doing really well.  Claire's last doctor's appointment was almost a month ago on May 27th.  At that time she weighed 12 lb. 4 oz. and was 24" long - so about 2 lbs. heavier and 2 inches longer than at birth.  I just got done packing away clothes she's outgrown.  She was lying on her activity mat as I was doing that, and I would hold up little outfits to her body and wonder how she was ever able to fit into them!  I'm sad that she's outgrowing her clothes but on the flipside I guess that means more shopping for me.  ☺

Claire is still sleeping through the night for the most part.  I say "for the most part" because she is starting to unswaddle herself during the night so around 4 AM she'll wake up and start to move around a bunch in her crib.  She's not exactly crying or hungry or upset, she just wants to fidget.  So one of us has to go in and reswaddle her and get her to go back to sleep.  It's a little annoying to get that before-the-roosters wake-up, but I just have to keep remembering how fortunate we are to have such a good little sleeper because for the most part she does really well!

We have a good routine going during the day.  Claire usually takes a short nap in the morning, a really long nap in the afternoon, and sometimes another shorter nap either late morning or early evening.  She's really starting to consolidate her asleep and awake times.  It's fun that she can stay awake for longer periods of time now, and with her ever expanding personality, she's just a fun little girl to be around!  She smiles a lot, has started giggling just a little bit, and really chats up a storm once she gets going.  We've been testing out the Bumbo seat with her and she can sit in it unassisted for little bits at a time!  I think Steve is really excited for her to start creeping and crawling...it will be fun, but I'm well aware that it will come with a new set of challenges!
I'm starting to mentally prepare for making baby food.  I have a book that I've skimmed through but still need to actually read, and have done some research on supplies I'll need.  We already have a food processor and a blender so that's good.  Somewhere I read that baby food can be store in the freezer for up to six months, I think, so I'm planning to start making food soon so I'll have a little stockpile ready for when Claire is old enough to start eating it.

Larkin is doing well.  She's still a vegan but over the past several weeks she's really started itching again.  We think she probably has some sort of environmental allergy as well, like possibly a grass allergy.  Antihistamines help control the itching, but we think we might want to have her tested for allergies so we can for sure know what she's allergic to and do whatever we can to control it.  Her old frisbee bit the dust a few weeks ago so I bought her a new one on Amazon that said it was chew-proof.  All I have to say is that Larkin would not be a good spokesdog for this company because there were teeth marks on it within just a few hours of her playing with it!

That's all I can think of right now.  I've been just as bad at my blog reading as I am with my blog writing.  So that's why I haven't been commenting as much lately.  I'm also thinking about paring down the number of blogs I subscribe to.  It seems like so many of them anymore are basically sandwich board blogs - almost 100% promotional and very little actual content.  Yes, I'm sure Silhouettes are way cool, but there are only so many sponsored posts I care to read!

Now for some photos!

Had to sneak in a Larkin photo - this was at Steve's grandma and grandpa's house.
